1. Paid Market Research Online – User Interviews

How can kids make money at home? There are so many different options, but let’s start with my favorite one. The first on my list of jobs for 10 year olds to make money: paid online market research studies! Market research studies are one of the best part time jobs for 10 year olds. User Interviews is currently the best platform for kids to find studies. Let’s learn about what User Interviews is and how to sign up, apply to and participate in studies.

What is the User Interviews Platform?

User Interviews is a company where different companies post market research interviews. What is that? Basically, companies need feedback on their products or services. For example, a cinema company wants feedback on the guest experience from those who recently visited one of their movie theatres. Since companies’ products often target kids, they want to talk to their customers! Other popular products that companies want feedback on from kids include apps and toys.

Why Is User Interviews One of the Top Online Jobs for 10 Year Olds?

User Interviews is one of the best online jobs for 10 year olds (or even 11 or 12 year olds) due to its flexibility. The studies can be applied to at any time of day. Additionally, paid market research platforms like User Interviews are perfect for young children who have never had a job before. There is no need to create a resume or source clients – all you and your child need to do is have access to a computer, internet connection and commit to applying to studies regularly.

How Do I Sign Up for a Study?

If you are selected for a study, sign up for a time slot that works for both you and the researcher. You can help your child search for studies before school, after school and before bedtime. If you are up to it, you can take the initiative and apply yourself – with your child’s permission. When selected, you’ll receive an email or text notification to sign up for a study slot. Figure out times of the week that work for you and your child to participate in studies. Once you have a schedule set, it’s easy to choose studies that work for you and your child’s schedule!

How Much Do Studies Pay?

Another reason why User Interviews is one of the best paid market research platforms for kids to earn part-time income: studies pay well. Some opportunities pay up to $100 per hour. While it takes some time to apply for studies and you’ll only qualify for a fraction of the studies you apply to, if you have the time and are consistent with applying, your child can potentially make a couple hundred extra dollars per month! User Interviews is one of the top jobs for 10 year olds online that pay good money – give it a go!

How Do I Sign Up for an Account on User Interviews?

Before you get started, talk to your child about making money online. Show them the website and explain that you’ll be making an account so you can help them make money. As many of the research studies are done via video camera and/or the phone, make sure your child is okay with being on screen and chatting!

Next, sign up for the account. To get started, sign up for an account on User Interviews. You’ll enter your (the adult’s) contact information and demographic details. Next, verify your account via email. Once you’ve verified your account, you’ll be able to see the list of available studies. Browse through available studies to see if any are for kids or teens. Generally, the title will indicate the demographic the researchers are looking for – whether it’s teens, parents or kids.

How Can My Child Get Study Invitations on User Interviews?

For the best chance of being chosen for an interview, always:

  • Apply every day. Set aside 3 different times per day to apply. Personally, I’ve applied for studies in the morning after breakfast (around 9 or 10am) around 9am, again around noon and then around 6pm. Again, when you consistently apply at different times of the day, you’ll be applying soon after the study is posted, rather than a day or two later. This means that you’ll often be closer to the top of the researcher’s ‘application pile’ and will be more likely to be contacted if you qualify for the study.
  • Keep your email app open. Since studies fill up on a first-come, first-serve basis, you’ll want to keep your email notifications turned on. When you hear your email app, open it as soon as possible. If it’s a study invitation, sign up for an interview slot as quickly as possible.

2. Paid Surveys – One of the Most Flexible Online Jobs for 10 Year Olds

If you’re looking for good ways for kids to make money but don’t want your son or daughter to sign up for a formal job yet, paid surveys are one of the best jobs for ten year olds. Paid online surveys are a great way for your child to make some spending money because:

  • Studies can be done in your child’s spare time (before and after school, on the weekends)

  • There are many types of studies available for different ages and interests

KidzEyes is a paid online survey platform where American children aged 6-12 can answer surveys for some spare cash.

Paid survey platforms like KidzEyes are an ideal way to teach your child how to earn their own money.

3. Starting a YouTube Channel – A Top Online Job for 10 Year Olds with a Creative Spirit

What jobs can 10 year olds do besides paid market research studies? If your child is outgoing, creative and upbeat, why not help them start a YouTube channel? Part time jobs for 10 year olds don’t always have to be working for a conventional wage. These days, kids from all over the world are making cash documenting their lives, singing, acting and more. It’s easy to get started – all you need to do is help your child make an account.

How Can My Child Make Money on YouTube?

How do kids make money on YouTube – really, how does anyone make money this way? There are two main ways that YouTube channel owners make money:

  • Sponsorship revenue
  • Affiliate marketing

Sponsorship Revenue

After your child reaches a certain number of views and has a specific number of subscribers, the channel will qualify for the ability to place ads on it. The channel will make a specific amount of money per 1,000 views. Typically, it’s only $1-2 per view, but if your child’s channel has a lot of views, it can add up quickly!

Affiliate Marketing Revenue

Additionally, you and your child can make money from affiliate marketing. Companies love partnering with media personalities with a large following because it gives them a big audience for them to have their products promoted! Each company has individual requirements and processes for becoming an affiliate, so reach out to each one individually to find out more.

Keep in mind that making money on YouTube is not for the faint of heart. If your child is looking for an easy way to make money fast, stick with paid surveys. However, if your child is ambitious and willing to put in the work, YouTube can be a great source of income! YouTube is a great example of a job for a 10 year old who is creative and resilient.

4. Selling Merchandise Online – A Fun Online Job for 10 Year Olds

Is your child creative and loves designing? Jobs a 10 year old can do aren’t limited to conventional waged employment. Selling merch or other prints online is a perfect job for kids with a creative streak. Etsy and other platforms are great places to sell t-shirts, mugs and more. Let’s review the process of setting up an online merchandise business selling printables. Creating and selling designs are one of the best online jobs for 10 year olds because it’ll let your child be creative while learning valuable entrepreneurship skills.

1. Help Your Child Decide What Designs to Make and Sell

Firstly, you’ll need to help your child decide what designs to make and sell. It’s exciting to just go and design whatever comes to mind. However, it’s best to start simple – choose one product and one design. If it goes well, you and your child can choose more merch types and designs to make and sell later on. To get started, they’ll need to determine:

  • Which designs they’ll choose
  • What type of merchandise to sell (notebooks, posters, mugs, t-shirts…)

Does your child love robots? Maybe they’d love to design robot-themed mugs. Another tip: since one of the goals is to make some extra cash, be sure to choose a design that’s somewhat popular – something that people will buy. To find out what’s popular, go onto Etsy and search for the most popular designs.

2. Create Unique Merchandise Designs

Once your child has settled on which merchandise to sell and what designs thy’ll make, you’ll want to choose software to make the designs on. In my opinion, the best platform is Canva. Canva is an online platform that lets you make thousands of beautiful designs. You can make logos, posters, Pinterest pins, banners, t-shirt designs and more.

The free account has a lot of different designs, but the premium account contains thousands more. Additionally, if your child is selling their own creations, they’ll need Canva Pro subscription as the free products have a watermark. If you’re selling your designs, you need them to be watermark-free!

Help your child create a Canva account to make beautiful designs to later sell. Walk them through how to find designs.

Need design inspiration? Browse Canva to find ideas – just make sure to not copy! Avoid copyright issues by starting your own blank page from scratch and then adding in design elements.

3. Choose a Platform to Sell the Designs

After your child has chosen what to sell and has made some designs, you’ll need to create an account on an online merchandise platform. Etsy is one of the easiest platforms to get started on due to its popularity and easy signup process. Additionally, you can post your first 40 designs for free!

After you’ve completed the signup process, go ahead and upload your Canva designs.

If your child is selling t-shirt designs or posters, you may want to consider Redbubble. Redbubble lets you upload your design and will manage the entire printing process. After a customer buys your product, Redbubble will handle the shipping logistics.

Redbubble fees are based on total monthly sales. Currently, there are 3 tiers in the fee structure. Be sure to compare prices and features on Redbubble, Etsy and other platforms to determine the best platform that works for you.

4. Assist with the Business and Troubleshoot

Once the business is running, be sure to check in every once in a while. Ask your child how the designs are coming along, how he or she is feeling (does your child still enjoy it?) and if he or she needs help with anything.

Help your child along the way by providing design advice and encouraging him or her during the process.

Manage Your Child’s Expectations

While creating and selling printables on Canva and Etsy is exciting, it’s critical to find a balance between making something people will buy and something your child enjoys making. Since this is likely your child’s first introduction to the world of entrepreneurship, the focus is on learning new skills – earning money is secondary.

How do you manage expectations? Avoid pressuring your child to choose designs that are popular for the sake of making money. At the same time, help your child choose something that people might actually buy. After all, your child will be spending hours of time making beautiful designs. If no one ends up buying them, it might be disappointing!

In general, as long as you’re okay with taking time to manage Canva, Etsy or Redbubble accounts, selling products online is a great way for kids to make some extra cash!

5. Best Jobs for 10 Year Olds Bonus Tip: Contests

Want more ideas for jobs that 10 year olds can do? While not a typical job or way to make money, signing up for contests is a great way to put your name in the hat for a chance at some swag or cash. Each year, companies give away millions of dollars’ worth of prizes and cash. If your child has a few spare minutes after homework is completed and before bed, let them use your computer to sign up for sweepstakes giveaways!

Some contests require participants to submit an essay, video or other creative project – a great opportunity for kids to work on their creativity skills. While contests may not result in making tons of money, it’s a fun way for kids to develop their creativity!

A Final Word on the Best Online Jobs for 10 Year Olds

There are many different jobs for 10 year olds online. While they likely won’t be able to finance their college education with these side hustles, they’re a great way to learn about responsibility, be creative and work with others. What are the best jobs for 10 year-olds at home? It all depends on your child’s personality and interest. Find a job that works best for him or her!

Have fun, be creative and enjoy helping your child make some cash!
